
The Bonner House for Campus-Wide
Community Service
was created to both
enhance current service-learning, community service, and civic engagement of
Concord University's current outreach as well as to expand that outreach
throughout the campus.
Services and
Initiatives
The Bonner AmeriCorps
Program
Open to all Concord University students, this program awards students with a
financial educational award upon completion of a certain number of service hours
within a 2 year period.
The Bonner Scholars Program
A scholarship program available at Concord University that develops student
leadership through service. Students receive $2500/year for four years for their
participation in the program.
Civic
Engagement Minor
An academic minor available to all Concord University students focusing on
studying the problem of poverty around the world and the response to it.
Martin Luther King,
Jr. Day of Service
Each year, the Center develops a community improvement opportunity through
service to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Service-Learning Resource Center
Offers access to information and tools as well as financial and hands-on support
to faculty in including and implementing service-learning in any Concord
University course. This includes the
Faculty/Staff Service-Learning
Stipends, IMPACT
Faculty Newsletter,
Resources website, and hands-on assistance with faculty in implementing
service-learning experiences.
University 100 Service and Teambuilding
University 100 is an introductory course required of all new Concord University
students. A major part of that course is a service-learning project that all the
students participate in together to introduce them to the campus' culture of
service and to build teamwork and camaraderie among the new students. The Bonner
House organizes and facilities these opportunities.
The VISTA Program
Concord University offers two positions through the
AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to
America Program to assist in building capacity for The Bonner House for
Campus-Wide Community Service.

This service links Concord University students, faculty, staff, alumni,
supporters, and friends with regional service opportunities throughout the two
Virginias. The website provides listings of area service projects seeking
support, and the Center provides over-the-phone or in-person assistance in
finding service opportunities individually or as part of your group, class, or
organization.
